- Permanent means permanent. Unlike semi-permanent colour, it cannot be removed. It can only be grown out or lifted with a separate lightening service. This is a long-term relationship.
- Your colour history matters. If you're currently lightened or have existing colour in your hair, transitioning requires careful planning and an honest conversation before we begin.
- Maintenance is part of the investment. Root regrowth appointments every 6-8 weeks are part of the journey, so factor them into your beauty budget from the start.
- Porosity and hair history affect the result. Previous chemical services, hard water exposure, and your natural base level all shape the achievable shade and how long it lasts.

Root Regrowth
The Root Regrowth service is designed exclusively for customers returning to maintain an existing permanent colour. We match your current shade precisely and apply it only to new growth, keeping the transition seamless and the result intentional.
When it's the right choice
- You've had a previous professionally applied permanent colour service, here or elsewhere.
- Your regrowth is less than 3 cm (typically up to 6 weeks of growth).
- You're happy with your existing shade and aren't looking to change it.
Not the right fit if

- Grey coverage has limits. Semi-permanent blends and softens grey beautifully, but for significant coverage requiring a uniform, opaque result, permanent colour is the more appropriate service.

Balayage is a freehand colouring technique where lightener is painted directly onto sections of hair rather than applied through foils. The word is French for "to sweep", and the motion is exactly that: colour swept on by hand, following the natural fall and movement of the hair rather than a mechanical pattern.
The result is a natural, graduated colour effect that deepens at the root and brightens through the mid-lengths and ends. Because the colour is painted freehand, every balayage result is unique to the individual, shaped by their hair's growth pattern, texture, and natural base. At Scanlon Hair, our Bespoke Balayage service is fully customised to your hair's current condition, your natural base level, and the specific look you are working toward.
Balayage is best suited to mid to long hair lengths, where the gradient has room to develop fully. It works beautifully on natural hair and on previously coloured hair, provided the condition and history of the hair are taken into account before the service begins.

- Condition is the foundation. Damaged or over-processed hair lifts unevenly and may not reach the desired lightness in a single session. The healthier your hair going in, the better the result coming out.

At Scanlon Hair, toning is a separate add-on service, priced independently so you only pay for what your hair genuinely needs. In almost every foiling appointment, your stylist will recommend it.
What's possible with tone goes well beyond neutralising brassiness:
- Root shadow & root stretch. A richer, deeper tone placed at the root creates natural-looking shadow, adding dimension, softening regrowth contrast, and grounding the colour so it reads as intentional rather than grown-out.
- Colour melts. A seamless gradient from darker roots to lighter ends, blended so gradually the transition simply disappears.
- Cool, icy, and platinum blondes. Violet-based toners cancel warmth entirely, achieving the bright, almost-white blondes that read as editorial, not accidental.

Our Classic and Super Blonde foiling services both use products from L'Oréal's Blond Studio range. The distinction between them is one of technique, not product. It's about how many foils are placed, how finely the hair is woven, and what kind of result that density produces.
Classic Foils
Foils placed at a natural density using a standard weave, picking up sections that create dimension, contrast, and movement through the hair. The result is defined highlights that play between light and shadow, bright where the eye is meant to land and natural where it isn't. The right service for the majority of foiling customers, and the most common foiling appointment we perform.
Super Blonde Foils
The same Blond Studio product, applied with a finer weave and at a significantly higher density. More foils means more of the hair is lightened. The visual outcome is a brighter, more uniformly lifted result across the head. The technique of choice when the goal is a very light blonde, high contrast, or comprehensive coverage that leaves little natural colour visible between highlights.

Foiling services are offered by head coverage. The more of the head we foil, the more complete and uniform the result. Your stylist will guide you to the right option based on your goal and your hair.
1/4 Head
Parting
Foils are placed at the parting and through the most visible sections around the face, the areas that catch the most light and are most seen when the hair is worn down. Ideal for a subtle, low-commitment introduction to highlights, or for refreshing only the most exposed areas of an existing result.
1/2 Head
Top Half
Foils are applied from the parting through to approximately the crown, covering the top half of the hair. Our most popular foiling service, delivering visible brightness and genuine dimension while leaving the underneath natural. The contrast is beautiful when the hair is worn up or moves in the light.
3/4 Head
Top & Mid
Foils extend from the parting down through the mid-lengths, covering the majority of the hair. Recommended for customers who frequently wear their hair up, or those who want a more complete result that holds up to scrutiny from every angle, not just from the front.
Full Head
All Over
Foils are applied throughout the entire head of hair, from parting to nape. The most comprehensive option, delivering an all-over lightened result with no natural sections left untouched.
